Truth and perspectives ...

Something has recently been open and “in my face” (if you will) – what we all see as truth and how our perspectives play into that. Hell, “Truth” and “Perspective” have been a topic of a few different conversations – whether overtly or covertly. How different are our truths from one another? How much of our truth has come from the lives we each have lived, which form and shape our world view? And what happens when other people see through our truths to what they really are? When are you just lying to yourself (and others), in the hopes that what you say is true?
Now I know what you are thinking … “Jesus, you old Mick, not every truth is solid. What the F are you talking about?” … and you would have a valid point. Some truths are “self evident” (if you view from the Founding Fathers) “… that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator (notice that doesn’t say GOD?) with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” … these truths are all items we hold dear and something that most of us work towards. But my happiness and your happiness may lie along differing paths, and may even come into conflict with one another  … so then is truth nothing more than a matter of perspective?
I will not argue the truths that can be proven through fact or science, nor am I looking to argue religion today (I don’t have the time for that, I have work to do). What I have buzzing around in my brain is the perspective and/or opinion many of us have as to what “truth” really is. Some of you might know this as “I’m right, you are wrong, and I won’t discuss it further”. The problem with the argument is that it is usually argued vehemently … especially after someone “pokes a hole” in the whole “truth”. It seems to pain some people to admit that they might be incorrect … and sometimes this even means lying to themselves. While I am no paragon of virtue, truth and honesty are two things I am working on improving in my life – not to argue points, but to actually live my life that way. Sadly, this is not something everyone tries to do with their own lives.
So, what truths do you know to be true, how many truths are your perspectives based upon what you believe and how you live your life, and how many are a result of you lying to yourself and others?
